Jamie Holder Leads Milford to Championship
Milford High School won back to back games to win the Fall League at Rivier College Sunday morning proving that they are the best high school team in New Hampshire. Milford did it with 66-58 win over Merrimack before pouncing Bishop Guertin with a 25+ point win.
Milford who has two of the best five basketball players in New Hampshire in Holder (left) and Mike O'Loughlin dominated Bishop Guertin the entire 32 minutes. Holder started the final off with a division 1 "and one" finish and Milford proceeded to run out to a 17-0 lead. Bishop Guertin would never get close.
Here is a look at the top New Hamsphire high school players in the semi-final and final games.
Jamie Holder (6'1", Milford, 2011) - Holder is a combination guard that continues to get better and better each time we see him. He can play the game at a division 1 speed and he finishes like a big time guard around the basket. Holder, who is long and fast, also showed that he may be the best defender in New Hampsphire. Holder has surely made his case as why he should be considered the best player in New Hampshire. Plus, Holder's still has an excellent upside.
Mike O'Loughlin (6'2", Milford, 2011) - O'Loughlin can score the basketball with the best of them in New Hampshire. He has an excellent stroke from the perimeter and uses his athleticism to get out in front of the pack in transition. He was excellent this weekend and may be the best scorer in the State.
John Wickey (6'6", Manchester Central, 2011)- Wickey had a decent showing as his team fell short to Bishop Guertin in the semi-finals. It is still evident that Wickey needs to improve his footwork and continue to prove his skill set. Babson College was on hand to see Wickey play.
Connor Green (6'4", Bishop Guertin, 2011) - Green is known for being a small forward who can shoot the basketball well. In watching Green this weekend, it is apparent that he is a bit out of shape as a result of his ankle injury. Thus, it was not his best performance. As we've said before, Green needs to improve his skill set so that he can play the guard position at college.
Sean McClung (6'4", Bishop Guertin, 2011) - McClung, like his teammate Green did not have the best Sunday morning. It is still quite apparent in watching the small forward that he needs to develop a much better handle and a midrange game.
Dimitri Floras (6'0", Merrimack, 2013) - What has was most impressive about Floras this weekend was the way he passed the basketball providing many easy opportunities for his teammates. Floras is learning how to become a true point guard. It was very was obvious this weekend, especially on one occasion, when Floras dribbled baseline, had nothing, and dribble out the other side before knocking down a jump shot.
Tyler Gendron (6'4", Merrimack, 2012) - Gendron has a good body and a good stroke from behind the three point line. Gendron knocked down several threes for Merrimack and kept them close against Milford. Gendron needs to improve the skill set and show that he can do more off the dribble.
Eric Gendron (6'2", Merrimack, 2014) - The younger Gendron came off the bench to play significant minutes against Milford. Gendron showed why he may be the best freshman in New Hampshire as he held his own against the athletic and talented Milford team. He can score from the perimeter and can also put the ball to the floor some. On the downside, when he shot from the perimeter, it was a set shot with bad form. He also needs to be a bit more aggressive going to the rim.
Gabe LaCount (6'0", Manchester Central) - LaCount was the most active player for Manchester Central in their loss to Bishop Guertin. LaCount has clearly put some muscle on his body and he goes hard. The bottom line is that he needs more skill for a young man of his height.
Kyle Nelson (6'4", Milford) - Nelson is a step away Center for Milford who has a great physical body and and a good looking stroke from beyond the three point arc. Nelson worked both inside and outside for Milford in the semi and final wins. He is an important piece to the guard oriented Milford team. Our only negative on Nelson is the fact that he still finishes a bit soft around the rim.
