Marco Coppola Leads Watertown over Burlington
Marco Coppola Scored 29 Points In Win
The MA & NH High School Basketball Report visited Watertown High School tonight to watch the top two teams in the Middlesex League square off. It was not much of a contest as Watertown defeated Burlington 76 - 42 in a game that really never got started.
The Raiders dominated this game from the get go as senior Marco Coppola (29 points) had nine points in the first 3:30 of the game as he hit two long range threes and added an old fashion one as Watertown moved to an early 16 - 2 lead. That lead extended to 23 -4 at the end of first quarter. Watertown outscored Burlington 13 - 4 in the second quarter and went into the half leading 36 -8. Burlington couldn't buy a basket and was a dismal 1 for 16 from behind the arc in the first half. Meanwhile, Coppola was 4-7 from the three and 7 - 15 overall from the floor as he had 21 half time points. Coppola impressed tonight as he showed he can shoot the ball from long-long range. He knocked down three jumpers that were released from beyond the NBA Stripe. Watertown also got a good effort from senior guard Danny Kelly who scored 15 points as he was able to attack the rim from the perimeter.
Burlington's Zach Hurynowicz, who has played spectacular over the last couple of weeks got hurt early in the first quarter, and as a result, was not in his best form tonight as he played limited minutes. Impressing for Burlington tonight were their two Freshman. 6'4" Freshman Christian Mornewick competed hard on the glass and looked good stepping away from the basket and stroking the basketball. Athletic 6'1" Freshman Shane Farley also impressed with some athletic finishes around the rim. We look forward to following the progress of these two talents.
Mike O'Loughlin To Play Basketball and Get Top Notch Education
The athletic Mike O'Loughlin
Milford's Mike O'Loughlin, who is our #4 ranked senior in the NH Class of 2011, has committed to play basketball at Trinity College in Hartford, CT. O'Loughlin joins fellow Granite State Jayhawks AAU teammate Steve Spirou (Pelham) , who is our #6 ranked NH senior, in committing to Trinity. Trinity plays in the the NESCAC (New England Small College Athletic Conference), which is one of the best Division III conferences in the country for both academics and basketball.
O'Loughlin is an athletic guard that does a little bit of everything. O'Loughlin has already scored 1,000 high school points, been selected as a NH All-State player, and has a Class I State Championship under his belt. O'Loughlin can get up and down the floor, score in transition, and make shots. O'Loughlin may be the best pure scorer in New Hampshire high school basketball. He puts the ball in the basket in so many ways. He can knock down the three, pull-up in transition, and get to the rim and finish. Added to that, O'Loughlin is a winner. We expect that he'll have an incredible career at Trinity.
Trinity coach James Cosgrove is only in his 1st season at the Division III NESCAC school, but he has two great pick-ups in O'Loughlin and Spirou.

Julie Frankian Breaks Millbury Scoring Record
Julie Frankian Has 1,410 Career Points
Assumption bound Millbury senior Julie Frankian became the Woolies’ all-time leading scorer during last night’s clash with Tantasqua Regional, tossing in a game-high 27 points to surpass Brian Parath’s 1,410 points and lead Millbury to a 58-46 home victory. Frankian broke Parath’s mark with less than a minute to go in the first quarter when she sank a dribble-and-pop 3-pointer. Frankian missed her first two shots and then hit three straight, each from the perimeter. “I was kind of hesitant in the beginning because I was a little bit nervous, but now I’m just glad it’s over and I don’t have this burden on me anymore,” Frankian said. “I’m very excited to have the record. Now we can just go out and try to win the league, districts, and also try to get back to States. I’m really looking forward to the rest of the season.”

NH Girls Class of 2013 Updated Winter Rankings
Meghan Green is Still Number 1 in NH Class of 2013
Meghan Green is a 6’1” forward with a very soft touch and a great set of hands. She is extremely coordinated for a player of her age and size. Green is very light on her feet and plays the game with grace. What impresses us the most about Green is that she is now starting to face up and put the ball to floor. If she continues to progress in all facets of her game Green has a chance to be a big time player. Oyster River's Kelsey Brown stays at number 2 and Lebanon's Trina Scheie who has impressed this winter moves to number 3.
The following is the updated rankings for the class of 2013.

North Andover's Brendan Miller
Brendan Miller Was Impressive on Friday Night
It is very rare that the Mass & NH High School Basketball Report gets to a high school game early enough to see the Junior Varsity game. But on Friday night, we are glad we did. We left extremely early to avoid traffic going up Route 128 for a 6:30 p.m. Varsity start time at Manchester Essex High School. Not only did we see a great Manchester- North Andover High Varsity game, we were fortunate enough to get the opportunity to see 6'2" North Andover Freshman guard Brendan Miller. Miller splits his time between the Varsity and Junior Varsity teams.
Miller caught our eye during the Junior Varsity game when he threw down a two handed breakaway slam. The explosive dunk got the crowd to its feet and had the North Andover Varsity team hooting and hollering. Miller is an athletic guard that walks and runs on the balls of his feet. His hops are big time and he has a great bounce to his game. At this point, he's still not a polished ball handler or shooter. Nonetheless, he is quite a prospect and if his skills can catch up to his athleticism, he will surely be a force to reckon with in the future. As they say in the basketball world, he has a huge upside. We will keep you posted on his progress.

St. John's Shrewsbury Too Good In Central Mass
Richard Rodgers Leads Top Ranked St. John's Shrewsbury
Friday night's 69 -46 win over St. Bernard's makes it clear that St. John's Shrewsbury is the dominant team in Central Mass and the likely team to represent the Central part of the State come tournament time.
In a night when two of Central Mass top rated seniors Richard Rogers (St. John's) and John Henault (St. Bernard's) went at it, St. John's showed they have so much talent that they can withstand a punch. Henault, who is known for being one of the top shooters in the state had 18 of his 25 points in the first half, most from downtown for St. Bernard's (6-2, 0-2, in Central Mass. Conference), and eight of their 11 points in the second. Rodgers took over in the second half, pumping in 22 of his 25 points for the Pioneers (9-3, 3-0) including runs of eight straight points in the third quarter and nine straight in the final period to seal the victory. One must rember that the St. John's is undefeated in Central Mass and all three of their losses came out of the area in the Gonzaga Tournament in Washington D.C. Since that 0-3 start, the Pioneers are on a 9-0 run at home.
The Top Guns:
We have seen John Henault on may occasions and he can flat out shoot the basketball from behind the three point arc. He also has an exceptional one-dribble pull-up as he is able to use fake and create space with the dribble. Because he is a feared shooter, often his teammates benefit from the close coverage he receives. When we saw him the summer, we said he was a fundamentally sound on offense and has an excellent feel for the game.
Richard Rogers is an all purpose forward who can get it done in a variety of ways. His best stuff usually comes in transition type basketball game as he is very effective scoring around the basket. Rogers has a nice midrange game that include a sound pull-up jumper. Rodgers earned his 1,000th career point with a put-back early in the game this season .
