Mass Rivals Tournament Brings Talent
St John's Steve Haladyna
AAU Season is officially under way and many of the most talented AAU teams in New England with many of the top players in Mass/NH descended on Woburn High School this weekend for the Rivals Hoopfest. The host Mass Rivals were present along with Expressions Elite, Middlesex Magic, Bay State Magic, Warriors, New England Storm, Mass Evolution, and the RI Hawks, plus many others.
There were many talented Prep school players at the tournament as well but here are some of the M.I.A.A. and N.H.I.A.A players that stood out. Junior Steve Haladyna who scored 28 points two weeks ago to lead St. John's Prep to a division 1 state championship started the AAU season just the way he ended his high school season, making plays, and lots of them. There were plenty of others that impressed inlcuding juniors Adam Bramanti (Masconomet), Zach Karalis (N. Andover), Mike Corcoran (BC High), Brandon Castro (Arlington High), Harry James (Wellesley High) and Mike Thorpe (Newton North). The list of sophomores that made some noise included Noah Vonleh (Haverhill), Dimitri Floras (Merrimack,NH), Jared Terrell (Weymouth), Dimitri Floras (Merrimack, NH), Derek Collins (N. Andover) Corneilus Tyson (Springfield Central), Jaylan Blakley (Brockton), Aaron Calixte (Stoughton), Johnny Spears (Georgetown), Kyle Lentini (North Reading), and Jefferson DeCopain (O'Bryant). The impressive group of Freshman included Jeremy Miller (Milton), Nick Cambio (Cental Cathholic), Phil Leotsakos (BC High) and Pat Benzon(Roxbury Latin).
