Scott Hazelton Basketball School Attracts Talent

Joe Mussachia's Stock Is Rising

The Mass & NH High School Basketball Report visited the Scott Hazelton Basketball School this weekend to take a look at the abundance of talent that frequents the camp each August. As the New England Recruiting Report noted earlier in the week, the Scott Hazelton Basketball camp provided NERR with it's first look at Evan Smotrycz (University of Michigan) and Carson Desrosiers (Wake Forest University) in 2007, Jordan Laguerre and Pat Connaughton in 2008, and Noah Vonleh in 2009. This year was no different as much talent came to Greater Lawrence Technical School in Andover.
.
The camp boasts one of the best coaching staffs of any local camp in New England and featured McDonald's All-American Scott Hazelton, Sean Connolly (2400 high school points, 1,000 Ohio State points, and varsity coach at St. John's Prep), Mike Trovato (played at Bentley College and varsity coach at Haverhill High School), Brian Bettano (played at UMass Lowell), and Duane Sigsbury (Varsity coach at Mancheter Essex).
.
The camp also got a visit from New Hampshire native and Wake Forest's seven footer Carson Desrosiers who worked out with Scott Hazelton in front of the camp. Desrosiers showed the youngsters his impressive skill set that separates him from other big men in the country. Desrosiers then spoke to the campers about the importance of working on their game and improving their skill set on a daily basis.
.
The talent at the camp included several prep school players and even more talent from the state of Maine. However, this report only covers MIAA and NHIAA players.

Joe Mussachia (2011, Manchester Essex, MA) – The 6'5" Mussachia is a long and skilled southpaw who has really demonstrated his ability to score the basketball over recent months. Best of all, Musssachia competes hard on both ends of the floor making plays that help his team win.

Mack Burt (2011, Saint John's Prep, MA) - The 6'4" small forward is an aggressive and active player. Burt does all the little things as he rebounds the ball, gets to the floor for the loose balls, takes the charge, and works on the defensive end. Burt was a tough cover during the camp as he used his physical body to both rebound and finish around the rim. Burt also showed us that he can step away and knock down the three.
.
David Madol (2011, Trinity, NH) – Madol growth as a basketball player has continued throughout the Spring and Summer. He is unquestionably a division 1 prospect. At 6'5" tall, Madol has a multi-faceted game that allows him to finish around the basket with both hands, handle the ball from the perimeter, and make pull-ups jumpers as well as threes. Maybe what is most impressive about Madol is the quickness he is able to get to balls. He is as quick off his feet as any player we've seen this summer and is able to play the game way above the rim.

Derek Collins (2013, North Andover, MA) - Collins is 6'1" and has a strong athletic body. We love Collins' game and his ability to score the ball in some many different ways including the three, off the dribble, and by getting all the way to the basket. He is a streaky shooter and when he gets going he can make several in a row. Collins is also one of the best at creating space off the dribble and has a deadly pull-up. Collins is surely a player to follow as he has a great chance to play at a scholarship level, and if that is to be the case, he must continue to sure up his skill set.
.
Mabor Gabriel (2013, Trinity, NH) - The 6'7" Gabriel is long and athletic and has huge strides in his game over the last few months. Gabriel has nice touch both around the rim and from the perimeter. Gabriel has demonstrated to us that he is a division 1 prospect.
.
Connor Macomber (2011, Saint John's Prep, MA) - Macomber's body has transformed over the last few months as he now has good size and strength. Macomber, who will be the starting point guard for the talented Saint John's team this winter, demonstrated that he can both handle and shoot the basketball. Macomber also works hard on the defensive end of the court.
.
Matt Daniels (2011, Chelmsford, MA) - The 6'5" Daniels is an extremely hard worker that gives 100 % every time he takes the floor. Daniels is a southpaw who throws everybody off with his lefty attack. This week Daniels showed he can score the basketball both off the dribble and off the midrange jumper.

Steve Haladyna (2012, Saint John's Prep, MA) - The 6'3" Haladyna is fun to watch as he competes at such as high level. Haladyna has a great knack for the basketball and is always around the ball. If you like to win, he is the guy you make sure is on your team. Haladyna needs to sure up his skill set if he is going to be a scholarship level player.
.
Sam Dowden (2013, Andover, MA) - The 6'4" Dowden is a real talent. Dowden has a sweet looking three and can knock down several bombs in a row. Dowden also can put the ball to the floor and is exceptional going to his left. His best move is his crossover to a pullup which creates much space and has become pretty much automatic. Dowden has a real chance to play at the division 1 level if he can continue to make the move from a high school four-man to a college shooting guard.

Colin Richey (2013, Whitinsville Christian, MA) - Richie is an extremely efficient point guard who has an excellent understanding of the game and is able to make those around him better. Having said that, Richey shows some flashes of offense as he can get to the rim and knock down some shots. Like we have said for most, a stronger skill set will help Richey's game immensely.
.
Travis Descoteaux (2013, Trinity, NH) – Descouteaux showed that he is a talented and versatile guard that cam make plays from the perimeter. Descouteaux made shots this week and distributed the basketball well off the dribble drive.

Mike Carbone (2012, Saint John's Prep, MA) - Carbone had a great week of camp as he knocked down the three all week long. Carbone also showed the ability to get by his opponent from the perimeter and finish around the rim. Carbone is a scrappy player that competes on every possession. Another guy for Saint John's Prep that wins you ballgames.
.
Sean Nally (2012, Manchester Essex) - Nally is a lefty point guard with a quick first step. Nally makes great decisions with the basketball and has the ability to score points in bunches as he has a nice stroke beyond the arc and is effective off the dribble drive.
