Rivals and Expressions Star Freshmen on Display
There was plenty of talent this weekend at the Hoop Mountain Invitational in Foxborough, MA. The highlight of the event was the much anticipated Expressions versus Mass Rivals 15U game.
The Expressions featured rated players that included slasher Ramon Gibbons (Charlestown High School), Kaleb Joseph (Nashua South, NH) Dimitri Floras (Merrimack, NH), and the Mass Rivals featured Noah Vonleh (Haverhill, MA), Derek Collins (North Andover, MA), Mike Auger (Hopkinton, NH), Alec Brennan (Weston, MA) and Sam Dowden (Andover, MA).
In a game that was as a good a 15U contest as you could ask for, it was the Mass Rivals who captured a 69 - 59 victory over the Expressions club. 6'5" Noah Vonleh who proved himself to be better than all the rest. Vonleh played 5 different positons in this contest, but most importantly were his minutes at the point where he created all kinds of trouble for the Expressions team. Vonleh, who was doubled team most of the evening finished with 20 points and numerous assists. He dominated the glass as he had several blocks on the defensive end and several put-backs on the offensive end. Vonleh even showed his range as he knocked down a critical three in the second half to extend the Rivals lead to 7.
6'4" forward Mike Auger made his presence known as he dominated the game inside finishing with 14 points. And 6'1" sharpshooter Derek Collins knocked down 4 threes of his own and had a couple of big time takes to the basket.
Expressions Ramon Gibbons showed his athleticism and ability to get to the rim as he had several big time moves to the basket.
