Desrosiers Video Shows Why He's Top Prospect In New England

Dosrosiers Shoots And Make NBA Three Against Andover

Take a look at the Carson Desrosiers video recorded this Thursday as Central Catholic remained undefeated (7 - 0) after defeating Andover.

The video seems to be a career highlight film or at least a season highlight film. But for who the MA-NH High School Basketball Report believes is the #1 ranked high school/prep school player in all of New England this was just a typical night.

When you watch the video, be sure to take note of the NBA three Derosiers hits while in transition; the drive and finish he makes from the wing; the great touch he has around the basket; his great shooting form that is so evident when he's at the free throw line; the five or so great passes he makes including a beautiful touch pass; the way he starts the transition and makes the lenght of the course pass; and the way he blocks shots, keeps them in play, and chases them down.

Add this all together and this is a video worth being sent to NBA Teams. Enjoy the video.

Top NH Boys and Top MA Girls on Display Last Night

Burt and LaRosa Put on a Show, Zenevitch Has a Career Night
For the most part, what you see is in Massachusetts the basketball players are quicker and more athletic than they are in New Hampshire. There are more high fliers in Mass, with kids attacking the rim. But NH is known for having better shooters. And it makes sense. If you don't have the explosiveness to get to the rim then you have to be able to shoot the rock in order to score points. Tonight in Salem, this theory proved to be true.

The MA-NH High School Basketball Report saw Salem host Dover in a Class L showdown and it was raining three's. Alex Burt (#1 ranked NH Boy) had a game high 24 points (including three treys) to lead the Green Wave to a 61-56 win. Burt had one three that he drilled in the second quarter from seven feet behind the line - that's a 27 foot jump shot! For Salem, it was Alex LaRosa (#5 ranked NH Boy) who had the hot hand. LaRosa hit five three's (three in the 4th quarter) en route to a team-high 18 points.

In all, there were over 30 combined three point attempts by the two squads, and 17 of them were good. Another player worth noting was Dover senior Rory Duffy. Duffy had 19 points, including five three's on the game.

The story of the night though was Burt and LaRosa. It was a great match-up featuring not only two of the best shooters in NH, but also two of the state's best guards period. These two were the biggest breakout players in NH last year. After not seeing much action as freshmen or sophomores, they burst onto the scene last year as juniors. In one season they went from bench players to starters to all-state selections. And next year they could both be college basketball players.

The MA-NH High School Basketball Report also visited Central Catholic High School to see Andover take on Central Catholic in high school girls action while witnessing a few of our top rated players in action. It was our #1 rated Massachusetts senior Katie Zenevtich who proved her ranking by scoring 35 points and gathering 23 rebounds in Central's 55 - 53 victory over the Warriors in front of a packed crowd last night in Lawrence. It was a special night for Zenevtich who was honored prior to the game for being the leading point getter in Central Catholic girls history with over 1200 points. Zenevitch also tallied her 1,000 career rebound during the game.
Coming off a Christmas Tournament victory over Central, Andover started the game where they had left off jumping on the Raiders for an early 14 - 1 and then a 24 - 11 lead. However, Central fought back to close the lead before half time as the Raiders went on a 9 -0 run to cut the lead to 24 - 20 at the half. The second half was close the entire way with Zenevith making big shots time and time again including a huge three down the stretch. Gabie Polce (ranked #11 in the junior class) was exceptional this evening making big plays and running the show for the Raiders. For Andover, our #1 ranked junior Natalie Gomez did not have her best evening although she showed a variety of great moves as she may be the best around at creating space of the dribble. Our #1 ranked Sophomore Nicole Boudreau of Andover sprained her ankle in the first quarter but battle through it scoring 10 points (Boudreau netted 39 in the Christmas Tournament against Central).

In the end the game was decided by a questionable call that put Zenevitch on the free throw line. With 6 seconds left, Zenevtich was trapped beyond the three point line and appeared to be asking for a timeout when the whistle blew in the 53-53 game. The crowd was stunned to see that the call was a foul and that Zenevitch was not granted the timeout. Needless to say, Zenevitch, who was perfect all night long was perfect in nailing both ends of the one-on-one.

Cetral Catholic-Andover Matchup Attracts Sell Out

Carson Desrosiers Dunks One Home

The MA-NH High School Basketball Report saw High School basketball at its best last night as a sold out crowd of 1200 people visted Andover High School to watch the #1 ranked an undefeated (7 - 0) Central Catholic High School with Wake Forest bound Carson Desrosiers take on # 16 Warriors. The word was that over 200 people got turned away at the door as fire code would not allow any further admissions. Inside, it was extremely loud and felt very much like a college game atmosphere. At one point in the fourth quarter it got so loud that you could feel the Andover gymnasium shaking as Central attempted free throws. For those athletes who played and for those spectators that were fortunate enough to get through the doors it was surely an experience they will remember as the years go by.

In the end, Central held on for a 65 - 58 decision. Junior Jimmy Zenevitch had a game high 24 points (18 in the second half). The story though was Desrosiers who was a force on both ends of he court. He took over the game scoring 14 points, grabbing 17 rebounds, blocking 8 shots, while adding 7 assists. Watching the game, it was clear that the 6'11" Desrosiers has become the facilitator on the offensive end for Central and in many ways the big man acts as their point guard. During the second half Desrosiers fed Zenevitch four different times for easy conversions. For Andover, junior Joe Bramanti led Andover with 18 points.

Winnacunnet Girls Continue to Roll

Holiday Tourney Win Further Cements Status as Elite Team

When you talk about girls high school basketball in MA and NH, the first team you have to talk about is Winnacunnet. They're the best team the area has seen in a long time. And over the holiday break they won a national tournament that gives validity to that statement.

Winnacunnet went down to Orlando, Florida to play in the KSA Holiday Tournament. They were placed in the white bracket, which was the toughest one there and played against other nationally ranked teams. They defeated Spring Ford High School (PA) in the title game 69-52.

In that game, the Warriors' three scholarship players all came up big. Tiffany Ruffin, who is Boston College bound, had 14 points. Emily Siegert, a 6'2" forward who will play for St. Francis College next year, had 13 points. And leading the way was guard Lindsey Mahoney with 19 points. Mahoney has not decided which college she'll play for, but she is also a certain scholarship player.

Winnacunnet went undefeated last season en route to their third consecutive NH Class L championship. What's more impressive is that they did it with no seniors on last year's team, so the whole roster is back again this season. In the latest espn.com poll, the Warriors are ranked as the #17 team in the entire east region.

MA - NH Basketball Report in Nashua, NH

Alex Burt and Dover Hang on Against Nashua North

The MA-NH High School Basketball Report traveled to Nashua this evening to watch the number one ranked NH high school senior Alex Burt and the number one ranked NH high school sophomore Javon Williams face off against each other. Dover won this contest over Nashua North 56 - 49 in a good game. Alex Burt was again the star for Dover, as he started the fourth quarter with a long three to put Dover up 42 - 36 and then converted 12 fourth quarter free throws down the stretch to keep Nashua North at bay. On the evening, Burt was only able to make the one field goal, but was an impressive 16 for 16 from the free-throw line as he finished with a game high 19 points. Burt had 16 of Dover's 18 fourth quarter points. Dover's junior guard Kenaan Al-Darraji impressed as he finished with 13 points whilde demonstrating his ability to make shots and get to the rim. Unfortunately for Nashua North, Williams (4 points) only played a few minutes in the first quarter before leaving the game with an injury to his hand (and he did not return). But it was fellow sophomore Ryan Gauthier who took advantage of the opportunity to shine. Gauthier had 10 points on the evening as he was successful in getting to the basket. Gauthier also had an excellent night on the defensive end as he held Burt to just the one field goal.

If anything came out of this game tonight, it became obvious that Dover is vulnerable when and if they don't make the long ball. Dover struggled tonight from behind the arc and lost the battle of the boards. It will be interesting to see how this plays out for Dover come tournament time.

We were also in Haverhill, Massachusetts tonight to see the much talked about 14 year old freshman Noah Vonleh. Vonleh led Haverhill to their first win of the season as the Hillies defeated Tewksbury 73 - 60. The 6'5" freshman had another monster game scoring 16 points and adding 13 rebounds. Vonleh impressed with his ability to rebound the basketball, lead transistion, and handle the ball from both the point and wing. The youngster plays the game with grace and makes the game of basketball look easy. Vonleh may be getting the most attention of any high school basketball player in Massachusetts, but he's the real deal and deserves it.

Finally, we also had the Merrimack @ Exeter game covered. Merrimack won this game in a thriller, 73-70 in overtime. Merrimack has two of New Hampshire's better prospects with the number one ranked freshman Dimitri Floras and the seventh ranked senior Eric Watson. Both players made huge plays in the overtime period to help the Tomahawks to the win.

With Merrimack trailing 69-66 late in OT, Watson (20 points) drained a three from the left wing to tie the game up. Soon thereafter, Floras (18 points) made a crossover dribble on his man, got to the bucket and finished the layup for what turned out to be the game winning basket and give the Tomahawks a 71-70 lead.
