Big Night at the Garden

4 Mass. Title Games in 1 Night

Division 1 North Boys
Central Catholic defeats St. John's Prep, 74-62. Carson Desrosiers scored 16 points to go with 12 rebounds and 4 blocks to lead Central to the win. Red Raiders junior Jimmy Zenevitch (pictured left) was the game-high scorer with 21. Zenevitch continues to form an unstoppable 1-2 punch down low for Central along with Desrosiers. For St. John's Prep, junior Pat Connaughton led the way with 18 points.

Division I South Boys
Madison Park beats Manfield High 72-60 in the final. Leading the way for Madison Park was a pair of seniors, center David Campbell and guard Spencer Braithwaite. Campbell scored a game-high 29 points and Braithwaite had 18 in the win. Madison Park is a very athletic team and should give Central a tough game in the East Region Finals.

Division 1 North Girls
Boy was this a heck of a girls basketball game! Andover wins it in overtime, defeating Central Catholic 69-65. Junior Natalie Gomez and sophomore Nicole Boudreau showed why they are possibly the top players in their respective classes. Gomez had 25 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists, while Boudreau had 25 points, 11 rebounds and 9 steals. Both of these girls have very bright futures. As usual, the star for Central was senior center Katie Zenevitch. The Boston College recruit logged 20 points and 17 rebounds.

Division 1 South Girls
Mansfield
over Durfee 60-50. Mansfield got a balanced attack from Michaela Bowes (17 points), Colleen Hooper (15 points and 5 assists) and Jessica Eason (16 points and 10 rebounds). It is clear that after watching this game that when these 3 players are on their game, Mansfield is very tough to beat. Still, Andover has to be considered the favorite in the East Region Final. For Durfee, Lauren Fiola played well, finishing with 19 points and 8 boards.

Ferrentino Huge in East Longmeadow Win

Senior Leads Team to Girls Semis

State tournaments are where you really see who the players are. Krista Ferrentino showed that she is a legit player last night in the Western Mass. Division I semi-finals. Ferrentino, a 6'1" senior, scored 25 points in the first half and 33 points total to lead East Longmeadow High to a 52-46 win over Holyoke.

Ferrentino is considered by many to be the best girls player in Western Mass. right now. She dominated all game long last night, especially in the first half. East Longmeadow started the game on an 18-0 run, and Ferrentino had 11 of those points. The fast start was the difference in the game. She was simply on a mission in this game, and got her points in a variety of ways.

Fellow senior Laurie Bonano also had a big game for East Longmeadow. She didn't have the huge numbers that Ferrentino did, but Bonano did all of the little things well for the Spartans. She made some clutch plays at the end of the game to help withstand a comeback bid by Holyoke, including a huge steal followed by a pair of free throws to ice the game.

LaRosa Headed to Salve Regina

Salem Guard Makes Commitment

Alex LaRosa, a senior guard for Salem High School and consensus top 5 high school prospect in NH, has made his college choice. The 5'10" LaRosa will be taking his game to Salve Regina University, a Division III school in Rhode Island.

LaRosa has had a huge senior season so far for Salem High. He's one of the top shooters in the state, and has scored 30 or more points five teams this year. He also also led the Blue Devils to 10 wins in their last 12 games. LaRosa is a very nice addition to Coach Sean Foster's program.

LaRosa isn't the only NH player Foster is after. Merrimack High's Eric Watson, who played with LaRosa on the Granite State Jayhawks AAU team last year, is also considering Salve Regina. The 6'3" Watson is still weighing his option though, and is expected to make a final decision soon.
