Selden and McKinney on the Rise

Mass. Freshman Making Noise

Wayne Selden from O'Bryant High School and Timmance McKinney from Milton High are two of the top freshman in Mass. Both players will be playing in the Mass & NH High School Basketball Report All-Star Showcase on March 21. And both are very much looking forward to attending, as they were AAU teammates in 7th grade when they played for MABC. They played very well together as teammates two years ago, and they're looking forward to the showcase event next month.

Right now Selden (pictured at right) is a hot prospect in New England. The 6'4" forward is one of the top freshmen and is turning a lot of heads from many college programs already. That should continue as he will play his AAU Basketball this spring and summer with BABC. He is going prep next year to the Tilton School where he will repeat his freshmen year and join the class of 2014.

As for McKinney (pictured below), he's been working very hard in the gym all winter long. Look for his stock to rise as he will be playing with the New England Playerz 9th grade team and should have people buzzing about his play this spring and summer. As of right now the 6'2" McKinney is planning on transferring to the Brimmer and May School next season and repeating his freshman year.

Recent Notable Performances

Stock is Rising for these Four Players

Coleton Neely, Pembroke Academy - The 5'10" guard is currently the #21 ranked senior in NH. But his stock has been on the rise signifantly this season after he missed last year with an illness. On Tuesday night vs. Coe-Brown, Neely scored a game-high 21 points. 16 of them came in the first half, and he also hit four three pointers and went 7-8 from the line. Neely also plays good defense, has a good handle and is constantly attacking offensively.

Josh Morgan, Campbell High School - The 6'2" swingman is currently the #20 ranked junior in NH. On Wednesday night, Morgan scored his 1,000th career point on a deep three point shot early in the second half against Farmington. He scored 18 points on the game to help Campbell to a 71-50 win in the preliminary round of the Class M tournament. Morgan plays the game with a lot of enegy and always has an extra hop in his step. He can shoot the three or take it to the hle effectively.

Ashley Gendron, Manchester Memorial High School - Gendron is one of our players to watch in the Class of 2011 for NH girls, and she showed why on Tuesday night. In a game that featured some of NH's best young talent on the girls side, it was Gendron who showed the most. She scored a game-high 32 points to lead the Crusaders to a 51-48 victory over Bishop Guertin.

Lizzy Ball, Manchester Essex High School - The 5'8" point guard (pictured left) is currently the #9 ranked junior for the Class of 2011 girls in Massachusetts. On Wednesday night she showed why her stock is definitely on the rise. Her Manchester Essex team had a 10-12 record going in, and they traveled to play the top ranked Pope John team who was 17-4. Ball had a monster game, and led . She scored a game-high 30 points, to go with 11 rebounds, 8 assists and 7 steals. It was one of the better individual performances we have seen this season on the girls side.

Monson's Boyle Hits 1,000

Senior Forward Reaches Milestone

Meghan Boyle (pictured left), a senior forward from Monson High School, eclipsed the 1,000 point plateau Monday night in a win in the Western Mass. Division III preliminary round. She led the Mustangs to a 62-18 win over Franklin County Technical.

Boyle scored a game-high 26 points on the game, including a bucket in the paint to give her 1,000 in the second quarter. The 5'11" senior is one of the most most underrated girls players in Massachusetts. She'll be a handful for Sabis when the two teams meet in the quarterfinals.

Another player who recently reached the 1,000 point mark was Pelham's Stephen Spirou. It happened on February 12 in a blowout win for the Pythons against Laconia. Spirou scored 25 in the game with the 1,000 point coming on a foul shot in the third quarter. What's even more impressive is that Spirou is only a junior. Not only that, but last year as a sophomore he played alongside guard Justin Hojlo who averaged 30 points a game. Spirou is currently the #3 ranked player in the Class of 2011 for NH.
