Winnacunnet Girls Continue to Roll

Holiday Tourney Win Further Cements Status as Elite Team

When you talk about girls high school basketball in MA and NH, the first team you have to talk about is Winnacunnet. They're the best team the area has seen in a long time. And over the holiday break they won a national tournament that gives validity to that statement.

Winnacunnet went down to Orlando, Florida to play in the KSA Holiday Tournament. They were placed in the white bracket, which was the toughest one there and played against other nationally ranked teams. They defeated Spring Ford High School (PA) in the title game 69-52.

In that game, the Warriors' three scholarship players all came up big. Tiffany Ruffin, who is Boston College bound, had 14 points. Emily Siegert, a 6'2" forward who will play for St. Francis College next year, had 13 points. And leading the way was guard Lindsey Mahoney with 19 points. Mahoney has not decided which college she'll play for, but she is also a certain scholarship player.

Winnacunnet went undefeated last season en route to their third consecutive NH Class L championship. What's more impressive is that they did it with no seniors on last year's team, so the whole roster is back again this season. In the latest espn.com poll, the Warriors are ranked as the #17 team in the entire east region.
