Lexi Sells heading to Providence
It is very exciting when we see a high school basketball player get offered a division 1 scholarship these days, especially those who choose to stay in high school and not take the Prep School route. That is exactly what happened to Lexi Sells this week Sells received a scholarship offer and verbally committed to be a Friar following her senior year at Bishop Feehan High School.
Sells is the No. 54 prospect in the ESPNU HoopGurlz 100 for 2012. Sells helped lead Bishop Feehan (Attleboro, Mass.) to an Eastern Athletic Conference co-championship and an appearance in the Division 2 South semifinals this past season.
Sells informed the Providence Coaching staff yesterday of her intentions on attending the University. It was just last Fall when Sells really came on the national scene with great play at the Nike Blue Chip Invitational. Sells drew national recognition from ESPN.com. Sells continued her stellar play during the high school season averaging 20 ppg , 7 rbs, and 4 assists earning her Herald All-Scholastic honors. The Providence College Coaching Staff had a chance to evaluate Sells during her High School season and again during the recent April division one viewing period. Sells who plays for the Rivals Basketball Club had a chance to show off her skills at the prestigious Deep South Classic which is held at Duke University and University of North Carolina. Sells had a great tournament and her stock rose significantly. Sells AAU Coach Scott Hazelton defines sells as "the ultimate all-around player. She can score, rebound, pass, and defend. She is a fierce competitor who loves to win, and she is a pleasure to coach" stated Hazelton.
Congratulations to Lexi Sells, Bishop Feehan High School, and the Rivals Basketball Club.
